Clarity of Business Blocked

by kim.castle on August 10, 2009

Ask KimQ: I keep reinventing my ideas instead of getting started.  I believe the reason is that fear is creating a smoke screen, or is keeping me from moving forward. How can I get past the fear that keeps me from achieving true clarity around my business idea and brand?

A: You’re probably right!  In fact, in my near two decades working with small business owners and entrepreneurs, fear is the number one thing that holds them back. Even if it doesn’t show itself like terror or cold sweats.

Often it show up in subtler more damaging ways—like spinning ideas, like your experience, or procrastination. At least when terror ends you know it’s gone.

The first step, is acknowledgement.  Often people don’t  want to admit fear is blocking them, so they are never able move off their spot of inaction.

Second step, capture your ideas in a small note book, or someplace that you can refer back to, so that you don’t lose them.  Ideas are your seeds for gold.  Instead of going over them again and again.  Give yourself a window of time and set a limit of how many times you can readdress the idea without taking definite action. For example: 2 months  x 4 times.  This way you’ve given yourself some time to get comfortable with the idea but not enough space to sit and spin without taking action.

Third: Emply a process that helps you remove your fears as well as one that helps to define and communicate your brand.  By using a process, it actually supports you in getting off your blind spot that prevents you from moving forward, it also guides you to what the next step for you to take. When you’re moving forward fast, fear has a way of getting lost in your dust.

You may want to check out Clearing the Path to support you on the fear front and the Business Profit System on the business brand front.  Both are processed-based programs, proven and tested with hundreds of entrepreneurs.  In other words….they work quickly!
